Michigan Opera Theatre Announces Major Award from National Endowment for the Humanities

Michigan Opera Theatre has announced that it will receive $175,000 in grant rewards from the National Endowment for the Humanities in support of its Home Digital programming campaign.

Michigan Opera Theatre is but one of eight performing arts organizations to receive funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the only opera company; this is also the first such reward for the Michigan Opera Company from the Endowment.

Michigan Opera at Home is an online service that the company provides to audiences via its social media platforms during this time of social distancing. Audiences get a chance to listen to podcasts and past performances as well as tune in to blogs and interviews.

“During these challenging times, the arts are more important than ever. We are appreciative to the National Endowment for the Humanities for their support that will enable Michigan Opera Theatre to enhance its audience engagement in the Detroit community and beyond,” said Michigan Opera Theatre President and CEO Wayne S. Brown in a press release. “Until it is safe to re-convene at the Detroit Opera House, MOT at Home allows us to remain connected to our community and to continue to offer performances and educational content digitally during this time of social distancing.”
